Chapter Ten
Damien and Lucas stared at their dad, wondering why they’d been called home so soon after leaving. But then again, they could’ve been gone for weeks instead of the day.
“Thank you both for coming back so soon. I know you haven’t been fully bonded with your Hearts Love long, but there are things I wanted to talk to you about and didn’t want to let too much time pass.” Damikan waved his hand toward the sitting area where Khan and Ezra were already sitting.
For the first time, Lucas looked at their half-brother more closely, realizing he truly resembled them, or more aptly, their father. “Hello, Khan, Ezra. It’s good to see you both again.” The words didn’t taste like a lie as he spoke, making him realize he meant them. He didn’t hold ill feelings toward the man who’d caused Jenna and them so much trouble. If it hadn’t been for Khan, they might not have gotten together when they did as their little Fey was a runner. Not to say they were happy she suffered, but, yeah, he was just happy she was now theirs in every sense of the word.
Khan dipped his head. “Nice to see you two again. You look happy.” His voice held a hint of longing that was not missed by the others in the room.
Ezra grunted, but didn’t say anything.
“I’m sure you’re all wondering why I requested your presence here, and I promise I won’t keep you waiting.” Damikan sighed as he walked over to the large windows looking over the front of the property. Lucas wondered how Khan had been contacted and what the other man was thinking being in the castle that should’ve been his home.
“I’ve had the last twenty-four hours to get to know Khan a little better, to which I’m grateful he gave me a chance, knowing what he thought for all this time. I feel as if my world is rocked off its axis, so I imagine you have questions. However, I want to assure you that your mother and I are solid. Never doubt the bond of a Hearts Love.”
Khan had his legs stretched out in front of him while he sat in one of the large wingback chairs their father had custom made for the larger males who visited, while Ezra sat in the matching one next to him. Both had their hands clasped on their stomachs, an air of relaxation settling over them. Whatever they’d talked about while he and his twin had been bonding with Jenna had clearly been good for them both.
“What Damikan is trying to say is that I no longer want to kill him, and he thinks I’m pretty cool as well,” Khan said in a bored tone, waving his right hand in a negligent manner.
Their father snorted. “I’m glad you no longer want to off me, however, I don’t think...” he took a deep breath before continuing. “Ah hell, I guess you boys are much cooler than me. Can I get any of you a drink?”
Ezra raised his hand.
